A Gift of Comfort and Joy
Most people would agree there are few things more desirable than warm feet in the winter. That’s why slippers are one of the most popular styles of footwear to give at Christmas. It’s always best if you know a little bit about the person you are giving the slippers to; like the size of their foot, and their preference to closed or open back, but it’s not imperative. After all, you really can’t have too many pairs of slippers. Personally, I have 3 pairs; my worn-in favourites, a “nicer” pair for when we are entertaining, and a pair I take with me when visiting. So if you have any concerns about gifting a pair of slippers; get over it, and prepare to make someone, especially their feet, very happy.
While there are many types of slippers available, from flat sandals to over the ankle booties, the three basic categories that winter slippers will fall into are: open heel, closed heel or moccasin.
Open Heel: often called a slip-on, this type of slipper appeals to those who enjoy the ease and convenience of stepping in and out of their slippers.

Closed heel slippers also come with a variety of soles to better suit the type of use the slippers will get. If they only are used in the home, a soft rubber or leather sole is fine, but if the slippers are going to be used outdoors on the deck or patio, you may want to choose a style with a heavier and more durable rubber sole.

Moccasin: this popular slipper is usually made of soft suede or leather and often decorated with bead work and or fur trim. These are very popular for gifts as the design and craftsmanship harken back to the time of North America’s original ancestors. The sole can be either soft leather or a hard rubber.
